Xentek Motorsport have finalised an exciting three-car entry into the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB in 2024, with reigning Ginetta champion Bal Sidhu set for his debut season in one-make Porsche racing.
In his fifth consecutive season of racing with the South Yorkshire team, Sidhu will be embarking on a double race programme this year as he adds a debut campaign in the Sprint Challenge GB to his existing entry into the British Endurance Championship in the same machinery.
Sidhu has stepped up the GT racing ladder this year after a successful run in Ginetta competition, which culminated in winning the GT5 Challenge Am title last season. He’s enjoyed a great start in the BEC, with two podium finishes from two races so far alongside Josh Steed.
After racing a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport in that championship so far, he will now be swapping to the new-for-2024 RS model for both programmes. An exciting evolution to the Clubsport, the RS features key upgrades in performance, handling and aerodynamics.
The West Midlands-based racer unveiled his 2024 Sprint Challenge GB challenger yesterday (15 May) during the championship’s official media day at Snetterton and will make his series debut later this month (25/26 May) alongside the British Touring Car Championship.
Sarah-Jayne McKenna – Team Manager: “We’re delighted to announce that Bal is our third and final driver for the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB this year. It’s a very exciting year for him as he gets to compete in both one-make sprint racing and the endurance competition.
“He’s gained lots of valuable knowledge and experience from testing and racing the Cayman Clubsport so far, and his pace in the new RS is very promising already, so we’re looking forward to seeing what he can achieve this season.”
Bal Sidhu: “After my time in Ginetta’s, the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB seemed the logical next step for me and I’m delighted to be making my debut in the championship with the continued support of Xentek Motorsport. The Cayman is a fantastic car to drive and I’m looking forward to racing the new RS for the first time at Snetterton.”
The 2024 Porsche Sprint Challenge GB will be contested over 18 races across six events in support of the BTCC, visiting the likes of Donington Park, Silverstone and Brands Hatch. At least one race per event will receive live free-to-air domestic television coverage on ITV4 and ITVX.
