Xentek Motorsport will head into the final round of the 2024 Porsche Sprint Challenge GB season in contention for the Clubsport Pro class title after taking a crucial victory with Sam Harvey at Silverstone this past weekend (21-22 September).
The South Yorkshire team headed into the fifth round of their podium-filled second season in the championship confident of challenging for more silverware on the short 1.64-mile Silverstone National circuit with their talented driver line-up of Harvey, Oliver Cottam and Bal Sidhu.
Enjoying a brilliant maiden season of Porsche racing since stepping up from the Ginetta GT5 Challenge with Xentek, Harvey continued his title challenge in the competitive CS Pro class with a hard-fought hat-trick of podium finishes across the penultimate round of the season.
On a weekend of ever-changing weather conditions, the West Midlands-based driver converted second place in qualifying into third place in the opener. Improving to second next time out, he saved the best until last with a brilliant charge to his sixth class victory of the year.
Cottam put in a strong weekend overall at the ‘Home of British Motor Racing’, making more great progress in his Porsche Cayman GT4 RS. The 18-year-old talent showed his impressive speed and racecraft again, getting into the thick of the action as he scored a pair of sixth place finishes in RS Pro.
It was unfortunately a tough set of races all round for Sidhu however. With hopes of making an impression following on from his British GT debut earlier this month, the former Ginetta champion was left to settle to a best result of seventh in RS Am in the second race.
Christopher Richards – Team Principal: “The weather certainly made for a challenging weekend of racing at Silverstone and all three drivers did a great job adapting to the conditions and putting in some strong performances across the races.
“Sam continued his brilliant season with another great weekend all round, picking up the podiums and points he needed to keep his title challenge going. Oliver enjoyed some good wheel-to-wheel action across the races and picked up a couple of strong top six finishes.
“It was one of those weekend’s where luck deserted Bal and we’re gutted he didn’t get the results his effort and pace deserved. There’s three races left this season and we’re determined to help all three drivers go out and end the year on a high.”
Xentek Motorsport are now focusing on back-to-back season finales on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, with the Ginetta closer next weekend (28-29 September) followed by the conclusion of the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB season (05-06 October).
